West of the Cumberland River atop Capitol Hill sits an elegant Greek Revival building recognized as a National Historic Landmark. It opened its doors in 1859 and houses the General Assembly and Governor’s Office. Surrounding grounds include several state buildings, statues honoring former President Jackson and President Johnson, as well as the tombs of President James K. Polk and Mrs. Polk.
While you're here, check out our U.S. Capitol Buildings Collection Album to have a dedicated spot for all 51 buildings.
