Built in 1668 for a wealthy sea merchant, this mansion became one of New England’s most enduring historic homes. It ranks among North America’s largest timber- framed houses still on its original foundation. Nathaniel Hawthorne’s visits here inspired his 1851 novel, which made the place famous. Today, this museum anchors a historic district spanning three centuries of Salem history.
