This 1887 institution houses more than one million artifacts spanning ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, the Mediterranean, the Americas, and more. Extensive university-funded excavations have supplied primary finds rarely removed from modern archaeological contexts. Its Sphinx of Ramses II, the hemisphere’s largest of its kind, anchors the entrance to this inspiring museum.
