This Art Deco service station and café was built in 1936 during the Great Depression. Clad in green-glazed tile and terra-cotta detailing, it exemplifies the Streamline Moderne style that defined roadside architecture. Its central spire, once crowned with a rotating tulip, served as a literal and symbolic tower for motorists crossing the Plains. It is now a popular visitors center and landmark.
