Several Tench Class submarines were built, but the Torsk was the only one to see service during World War II. More than 80 U.S. Navy sailors were aboard during her two patrols off the Japanese coast. The sub sank three enemy vessels, and after the war, she was deployed in the Atlantic and Mediterranean before being retired. In 1972, it was opened to the public in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.
