Planning a trip? Check out the Ute Mountain Fire Lookout Tower website.
In an age when almost everyone has a way to report a forest fire, this tower is a monument to days gone by. Completed in 1937 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, it was the first in the state to be built with above ground living quarters. Although it fell out of use in 1969, this National Historic Place serves as a forest fire lookout interpretive site.
