Named from the Cree word for “white bear,” this massive Manitoba wilderness protects one of the world’s largest known polar bear maternity denning areas. Pregnant females shelter up to about 100 kilometers inland before emerging with cubs in late winter. Known as one of Canada’s least-developed national parks, it proudly has conservation take priority over conventional tourism.
