The Mountain State’s Capitol faces the Kanawha River and is a part of the West Virginia Capitol Complex historic district. Completed in 1932 with a limestone exterior and marble interior, two wings meet at a rotunda remarkable for a 4,000-pound chandelier hanging within a 293-foot gold-leafed dome. With over 14 acres of floor space, the building hosts the Governor’s Office and State Legislature.
