In Collinsville, Illinois, a bright-red steel bottle rises 170 feet above old Route 66. It is 70 feet cap-to-base hoisted on 100-foot legs. Famously spelled “catsup,” it was built
in 1949 as a water tower for the Brooks plant. It can hold 100,000 gallons of water—or roughly 640,000 bottles of ketchup. It is on the National Register of Historic Places, as well holding a place in the Illinois Route 66 Hall of Fame.
