Formed over 500 years ago, this geologic marvel is a corridor into the heart of the park. A network of tunnels, called pyroducts, trace the poured pathway where 2,000-degree lava once flowed. Before its modern discovery by Lorrin Thurston in 1913, evidence shows that early Hawaiians used these hollow tubes as shelter.
