Built on former Hog Island shipyard land, this airfield grew from the municipal-aviation era into a modern entry to the skies. It was dedicated by Charles Lindbergh before opening with a terminal in 1940. Since then, its weather station has been Philadelphia’s official record point. A rail spur threads every terminal to Center City, making it one of the few big U.S. airports with true train-to-curb access.
