This remote Big Sur shoreline is reached by an unmarked two-mile drive off Highway 1. It is known for cold water, strong rip currents, and purple sand caused when eroded manganese garnet washes off nearby slopes. Offshore, the wave-carved Keyhole Arch famously frames sunsets into a glowing tunnel that draws photographers worldwide.
