Along the Big Sur River, this park encompasses around 1,000 acres. It protects redwood groves and canyon terrain beneath the Santa Lucia Mountains. Often called “mini-Yosemite,” it was established in 1933 when rancher John Pfeiffer sold his land to California instead of resort developers. It combines riverside campgrounds, Big Sur Lodge, and lookouts like Valley View and Buzzard’s Roost.
