The first state to ratify the Constitution, Delaware is forever tied to an early spirit of independence. Sweden, England, and the Netherlands fought over the Delaware Valley and its early settlements. Six sites in the state are preserved in this Park, including Brandywine Valley, Woodlawn, Old Swedes Historic Site, and Fort Christina.
