The grin on the 13-foot-tall goober pea is unmistakable: It belongs to the 39th president. Placed in the former peanut farmer’s hometown by the Indiana Democratic party to boost Carter’s 1976 presidential campaign, the “most photographed thing in Plains, Georgia” now located north of downtown is a must stop for travelers.
