The remote and rugged landscape of this park thwarted most historical attempts at development leaving it largely unpopulated and remarkably dark. However, its high rate of visitation left a legacy of over 5,000 light fixtures. In 2019, all fixtures became DarkSky compliant to restore the natural lightscape. Free astronomy events are offered year-round.
