The first lighthouse that warned mariners of the offshore hazards in the “Graveyard of the Atlantic” was lit in 1803. Its replacement, today’s striped 198-foot icon, went into service in 1870 and later was moved inland to protect it from beach erosion. Visitors climb 257 steps to take in epic views from the tallest brick lighthouse in the U.S.
