Though electrified in 1932, this light north of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore’s Oregon Inlet still functions as an active navigational aid. The white and black striped light is surrounded by marshlands, ponds, and maritime forest. With a reach of 19 miles, it has illuminated an area once called the “Graveyard of the Atlantic” since 1872.
