Over 87,000 acres and 30 miles of rivers and streams in the North Woods earned protection with the designation of this Monument in 2016. For thousands of years, native peoples lived in the wetlands and forests of this region, using the natural resources for travel and subsistence alongside black bears, Canada Lynx, and other species.
