Planning a trip? Check out the Saint Croix Island International Historic Site website.

A French expedition led by explorer Pierre Dugua landed on this island in 1604. Long inhabited by the Wabanaki people, including the Passamaquoddy, the crew traded with native peoples returning after a harsh winter. The settlement moved shortly after and exhibits and trails on mainland sites in the U.S. and Canada trace this history.
