Planning a trip? Check out the Saugus Iron Works NHS website.
European iron makers who settled along the Saugus River in the 17th century went to work building what would become America’s powerful iron and steel industries. The site is a replica of the continent’s first iron works, including a forge, blast furnace, warehouse, 1600s home and a mill where rods cut into nails were produced.
