Designated as PBJs, the aircraft entered Naval Aviation history with Doolittle’s daring 1942 raid on Tokyo. Over 700 served Marine squadrons in the Pacific. Armed with radar and even rockets, it specialized in low-altitude attacks and night missions against enemy shipping. It was retired in 1948 with service spanning Rabaul to Okinawa.
