This Japanese carrier fighter earned a reputation in early WWII air battles thanks to its speed, range, and almost mystical maneuverability. As the war progressed, its lack of armor and self-sealing fuel tanks left it outmatched by tougher Allied aircraft and evolving tactics. The museum’s restored example is pieced together from various wrecks.
