This Gulf Coast city has been claimed by five different nations since its founding in 1559. It also holds the title of America’s first European settlement. It is home to the National Naval Aviation Museum, the Blue Angels’ training base, as well as a deep-water port that aided U.S. naval expansion. As the site of the Navy’s first air station, this is often referred to as the “Cradle of Naval Aviation.”
