Harriet Tubman purchased land in rural Central New York in 1859. The seller belonged to a progressive group of abolitionists in Auburn. Her brick-built residence, the Thompson Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church she attended, the Tubman Home for the Aged whose land she donated, and a visitor center are located within the 32-acre park.
