The redwood trees in these parks are some of the world’s tallest living things, growing to heights exceeding a 35-story building. The larger trees can absorb hundreds of gallons of water daily through their root systems, and some redwoods have lived for 2,000 years. The park complex preserves 45 percent of the remaining old-growth forests that once covered two million acres of the California coast.
