This family-run St. Louis custard shop has anchored the city’s road-trip culture Since 1929. In 1959, a local teen’s challenge to “make it thicker” sparked the shop’s famously dense “concrete” custard blended with mix-ins and ceremonially flipped upside down. The upside-down serve remains a signature today and helped inspire Dairy Queen’s Blizzard and flip-at-the-window ritual.
