This collection compresses 15 decades into a time machine of American motion. In the yard, the 600-ton Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4006 stretches 132 feet. Inside sits the Virgin Hyperloop XP-2 “Pegasus” pod from the Smithsonian’s Futures exhibit. Even the museum’s first artifact is still here, an 1870s mule-drawn streetcar.
