The glacially smoothed rock outcrops at Voyageurs are the products of a dramatic geologic past. Studies indicate the park area once was volcanic and mountainous. The mountains wore away through hundreds of millions of years, leaving behind some of the oldest rocks on Earth. These picturesque outcroppings provide natural decor to this wild and watery North Woods destination.
