The glacially smoothed rock outcrops at Voyageurs are the products of a dramatic geologic past. Studies indicate the park area once was volcanic and mountainous. The mountains wore away through hundreds of millions of years, leaving behind some of the oldest rocks on the planet. During the right conditions, Voyageurs is a spectacular place to experience the northern lights.
