Towering above as the highest ridge over Harpers Ferry, this idyllic area was once heavily fortified by Union troops during the Civil War to control the Potomac River. Today, steep trails lead to panoramic overlooks of the town below. Ruins of Union fortifications and artillery batteries still dot the landscape – brief glimpses of its wartime past.
